How to Worship

  1. Worship is complete surrender and willingness to serve
    1. Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their grandeur.8 And he said to him, "I will give you all these things if you throw yourself to the ground and worship me."9 Then Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan! For it is written: 'You are to worship the Lord your God and serve only him’ ” (Mat 4:8-10)

    2. Nebuchadnezzar demanded to be worshipped through bowing (falling) Daniel 3:5-7, 10-11, 15 and service Daniel 12, 14, 18, and 28
      1. When you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, trigon, harp, pipes, and all kinds of music, you must bow down and pay homage to the golden statue that King Nebuchadnezzar has erected. Whoever does not bow down and pay homage will immediately be thrown into the midst of a furnace of blazing fire!" Therefore when they all heard the sound of the horn, flute, zither, trigon, harp, pipes, and all kinds of music, all the peoples, nations, and language groups began bowing down and paying homage to the golden statue that King Nebuchadnezzar had erected. Dan 3:5:7
      2. You have issued an edict, O king, that everyone must bow down and pay homage to the golden statue when they hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, trigon, harp, pipes, and all kinds of music.10 And whoever does not bow down and pay homage must be thrown into the midst of a furnace of blazing fire Dan 3:10
      3. Now if you are ready, when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, trigon, harp, pipes, and all kinds of music, you must bow down and pay homage to the statue that I had made. If you don't pay homage to it, you will immediately be thrown into the midst of the furnace of blazing fire. Now, who is that god who can rescue you from my power?" Dan 3:15
      4. “There are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego; these men, O king, have not paid due regard to you. They do not serve your gods or worship the gold image which you have set up.” Dan 3:12 Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up? Dan 3:14 “But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”Dan 3:18 Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God! Dan 3:28
  2. Empty Worship - Think about a celebrity actor known for a non-christian lifestyle; however, they were cast to portray a biblical character in a movie. God warns us about acting out the motions of worship without surrendering ourselves and without serving God
    1. This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me,8 and they worship me in vain, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. Matthew 15:8-9
  3. Spirit and Truth must be salient to worship John 4:23-24
    1. But a time is coming - and now is here - when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such people to be his worshipers. God is spirit, and the people who worship him must worship in spirit and truth." John 4:23-24
    2. Set them apart in the truth; your word is truth John 17:17
  4. Worship is a lifestyle that includes surrender and service
    1. We can Worship at work
    2. We can Worship at school
    3. We can Worship in our alone time
    4. We can Worship during fellowship
    5. We can Worship when we pray
  5. Worship Belongs to God Alone
    1. Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things. Then he said to me, “See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.” Rev 22:8-9
